Michael Franz arrived on July 15th, 2007.  He writes poetry, paints and is a great help in the garden.  He also likes canoeing on the lake.   Here is Michael at the Vernissage of ARTS Morin Heights on Friday, July 20th.   More to come.

On Friday, July 27th, I brought Michael to work with Luc Melançon at this canoe building workshop.  In the evening Luc and Martine brought Michael back, we had dinner together and Michael played for us on the guitar that Luc lent him for use while staying here.

Michael in my new, enlarged studio with the guitar.

Michael helped a lot in the garden (the green beans and peas he planted at the end of July, are now starting to bloom).  Michael also knew how to cook, and was very supportive after my fall, the resulting 12 stitches and a second hospital emergency room 15 1/2 hours wait.

Thank you so much for all your help Michael !

Ghislain Hardy

Ghislain Hardy arrived on April 30th.  He is a great help to me.  He offered to stay and help during my convalescence from a cataract eye operation.  He drove me back from the hospital and the next day to the doctor's office to remove the eye patch.

Merci pour tous Ghislain!

Ghislain brought me the most beautiful art book about French art inspired by the cliffs of Etretat in Normandy.

Ghislain spent two months with me, then passed on to another place around Lake Dainava, where he had a private house for himself and Hélène.  On August 8th, I drove him to the airport to return to France.  He called me three days later saying that it was a very long trip to get back to Normandy but he made it.

Robert Klatt

Robert called from the van that he drove across Canada with his friend Darcy.  They arrived Sunday, April 15th, 2007.  They drove all the way from British Columbia to Newfoundland (Ferry of course).  They got the van for a few hundred dollars,, spent two weeks fixing it, and it did the job.  When they arrived they decided to sleep one last night in the van.  They ate supper with Ken and I and went to sleep in the van.  They slept through a horrible storm that pulled trees down until almost noon.  There was no electricity and I had to wake them up to breakfast.  Darcy had to leave and start his drive to Alberta where he plans to start his own garden maintenance business.

Robert is 6'7" my door was not tall enough for him.

You can see it clearly here.  Robert stayed a week and on Sunday I took him to the airport to return to Germany after a year in Canada.

Robert was a wonderful guest.  Had wonderful observations about Canada.  On his last day, before the airport, I took him for a tour of Montreal to see the parts he did not visit yet.  We took some pictures that I will send him soon.

Yuka Sakata (from Japan) arrived December 1st, 2006.  The bus was delayed over an hour due to an icy rain storm, in which I drove with Lisa and Jean-François to welcome Yuka at the St. Jerome Bus station - it was a very long drive.  Yuka called us from the bus to say they were in Bois Briand...so we went for hot chocolate!

Lisa and Jean-François stayed for supper.  Lisa, Yuka and I, prepared supper together somehow making a good team in the small kitchen.  We had a nice supper starting with a soup with noodles.  Then then Yuka had her first cup of tea in my place.  While having desert we all watched the Japanese version of Shall We Dance.

On Sunday, December 3rd, Christine & Joe Belmonte came, invited us for breakfast at Mikes in Lachute and we went to see Marielle Thibodeau in St. André d'Argenteuil and an exhibit of Barbara Elmslie.

Yuka spent a few days with the Bentley's daughter in law Colleen who had a week off.  Then she came back here and spent time with me.

Note: June 2007:  Yuka wrote from Japan, she is back home.

Rami, Ken, Takako, Yuka at the Barb B Barn West Island on December 15th.  Than we went home and I little Shabbat Candles and Hanukah Candles.

On Monday, December 18th, Yuka and I went back to do shopping in Montreal and meet with Takako.  I took them to eat at Mazurka, a Polish Restaurant.  Yuka photographed her vegetarian dish with Pierogi, Blintz and Potato Pancake.

On December 20th, Yuka went back to Coleen and Mark Bentley to help with the kids who are off from school, until January 6th, 2007.  She She came back for a few days.  Takako came for a week after spending New Years Eve in New York City (at Times Square) and she brought me the hat and scarf she got there.

Note: Summer 2007 - Both Yuka and Takako are now back in Japan and stay in touch.

Takako already sent me a lovely package with all kind of Japanese delicacies and specialties, and for my 70 birthday, she surprised me with yet another package including paper and ink.  Thanks for everything!
