The
Wearable Art of Tineke Lentink
Tineke
Lentink is one of the most prolific artists I have ever encountered.
She creates art objects in many shapes and forms. She designs, sews,
paints on cloth, weaves, knows how to make a Sioux tipi, and a lot more.
Tineke spent a few years working with native people in
James Bay, setting up a small business for the production and sale of
native arts and crafts on canvas. Now Tineke designs clothes, and
volunteers her artistic skills, teaching weaving at a farm that fosters
intellectually deficient persons.
I was treated to a viewing of her recent collection of
One-of-a-kind wearable art. Clothes sewn from unique
materials she obtains from
Europe and
Africa.
Her
coats are quilted or reversible, her outfits are comfortable and many
are one-size fits all.
Some
blouses are sewn of a variety of materials, colours and patterns. I
found these particularly attractive.
Tineke makes everyday clothes as well as eveningwear. If
she has the material you like, she would sew one in your size no
problem.
Some
outfits are sewn from material that she paints herself. Many are two or
three-piece outfits that could be worn anywhere. These clothes are
attractive, yet designed for comfort.
Put one of Tinekes creations on, and you are set for a
dinner gathering, a cocktail party or a walk in the forest.
