Artistic
Recycling Celebrated Again!
The
3rd Festival Recycl’Art opened on July 15th.
It was attended by dignitaries and many of the 60 participating
artists who created an amazing collection of artwork. Curators
were: Jacques Charboneau, director of the regional
contemporary art centre in Montpellier, and Armand
Destroismaisons, president of the Quebec Sculpture Council.

The mayor of Montpellier. Stéphane Séguin, opened
the event with a welcoming speech.

Sylvie
Pronovost helps Jacques acknowledge all participating artists.
Jacques
Charboneau said that Festival Recycl’Art was refused Quebec
Government Art grants for two years in a raw, and that the future of
this major event is in peril. Mr. Mario Laframboise attended
the event saying that if federal help is needed, he could be
contacted. Mr. Norm MacMillan, deputy of Papineau at the
national assembly of Quebec said that he would help.
Martin
Lamoureux, representing
Tricentris,
a Lachute company that recycles material for many municipalities in
the region, announced that the company will hold a competition of
recycled art.

During
the exhibition, there will be live demonstrations by the artists,
who will create sculptures on site. For more information call:

Pictures shown
here are of some of the interesting, imaginative works
displayed, and some fun moments.
Titles of works,
and some of the artists names are still to be included.

This work included televised images. It made me
think of Africa.
|

Valérie Beaulieu of Quebec City with her creation.
Unfortunately, because of the many people around, I
was unable to photograph all the works and could not
speak to all the artists about their creations.
I hope that next year funds will allow a catalogue of
all the words displayed. |

Reflection II by Diana Boulay.

Michel Gautier said: "C'est le temps pour les
discours." There was a lot of applause. |

audience and the building with a creation that looks
like a dinosaur. |

Sylvie Reis's bench, created on site to pay homage to
her grandfather. |

The artist explains his creation. |

Some of the works made people stop and ponder. |

Armand Destroismaisons prepared two new works for this
exhibit. This is Nap (underground water) ....type
1. |

Everybody gathered around Armand Destroismaisons giant
sculpture that includes parts of a boat, done in 2004.
The second work created for this year's show, a mural
exhibited inside the building, Underground water type 2,
also includes part of a boat (sorry no photo.) |

Michel Gautier's creation includes two figures
protruding from an encasement, as if part buried in
cement. |

This one made me think of a person who wears his heart
on his/her face. |

This installation included large beams around and heavy
metal chains and hooks, a male body part hanging like a
chunk of meat in a slaughterhouse. |

One of Clode Pilotte's humoristic creatures.

The dignitaries applaude the artists: Mario
Laframboise (second from left). |

Clode Pilotte's polka-dotted chairs.

Clode Pilotte and Jaque Huet, applauding the other
artists who are being introduced by Sylvie Pronovost. |

Carol Proulx Maze, and another creation by another
artist in front of it.

Carol Proulx was not there, but his installation was
favoured by the artists for conversations and photo
taking.

However, somebody called them all away to take a
group shot in front of the building. |
