Summertime
Revived with Bales of Hay
On February 12th, the Exhibition space at the Lachute Maison
de la Culture, was full to the hilt, Nicole Rozon, who is well known in
Lachute, presented her new paintings bales of hay done with exuberant
colours. It was as if the warmth of summer concentrated in those
tightly gathered orange-yellow bales, was transported into that one
room, eliminating the cold and white outside.
This body of work, began late 2004, with one painting depicting bales
of hay. Rozon found a theme to play with, just like a child with a new
toy.
The result is a collection that marks a departure from Rozons previous
realistic, at times impressionistic, Laurentian scenes. Some of the
larger new paintings, show bales of hay in accentuated natural colours,
surrounded by stark monochromatic colours in flat geometrical shapes.
One can almost see how the artist was striving to create a new voice,
while concentrating on a singular subject matter. The style evolved,
using a new pallet and spatial division, bringing the bales of hay to
the forefront. An interesting concept indeed! A great way to share an
artists creativity with the public.
