May 29th, 2006. I just fell in love with a lamp!
Hope I managed
to capture the luminosity of this beautiful creation.
Designing, choosing the
colour and texture, breaking the design into numbered pieces, cutting,
trimming and putting together colourful pieces of glass, encircling each
by metal strips, soldering and mounting the piece are just some phases
that go into the creation of stained glass art.
Charles Lefebvre does all this and
much more. He teaches the craft, creates unique new pieces and
oversees the operations of Route des Arts. As the president of
Route des Arts, since 2001, Charles has been working incessantly
to promote and improve the open studio art tour. Under his
leadership, in the past 6 years, Route des Arts grow from a 200
km circle in the Argenteuil region to a 500 km circle of
Argenteuil and its environs, with a growing number of repeat
visitors, who are already looking forward to the next Route des
Arts July 29th to August 6th, 2006.
Charles is a proud fine craft
artisan. His specialty is stained glass, which he has been
pursuing for over 30 years. His creations include windows,
hangings, lamps, kaleidoscopes, decorative boxes, containers and
other small humorous items and three-dimensional objects. He
pays lots of attention to detail, light reflection through
coloured glass, and smooth finishing of each piece. Customers
are presented with suggested designs, and Charles does not spare
efforts to create a final object that would please the owner.
His recently completed lamp is astounding when lit, with its
cheerful luminosity.
Charles studio is located in
a150-year old farm house; the tree-lined driveway leading to his
house brings the visitor to a front porch which he decorates
each summer with stained glass windows, hanging plants and
lovely flower boxes. A wonderful welcome to an inspiring visit! |
