February 28th, 2007 Visited after Jury selected Jean Graton to be one of Route des Arts 2007 studios.

Jean works in an bright, well equipped workshop.  He loves what he does and enjoys teaching his craft to the young ones in primary school.

His studio is in the lovely village of Ste. Scholastique in the heart of Mirabel.

Jean chose to be photographed with his plane, since he said he does a lot with the planer.
The wall has many photos of previous work done on order, as well as a caricature of himself with his plane. A wooden horsy hanging from the ceiling.   Jean has an album with photos of many of the projects he carried out, including restoring old kitchens and antique cabinets.  The album's cover is his own woodwork design.
Here are a few images submitted by Jean Gratton:

This is the desk ordered by Denise Beaudoin, National Assembly Representative for Mirabel.

This is a piece of furniture for a small kitchen, which opens up into a table.

Jean also does a lot of restoration of old cabinets and furniture.  He works with tools and materials used in Quebec in the olden days.

Sculpted handle & relief work.

A dish set display unit made to order.  The customer had some pieces missing from the set and wanted to make it look like a complete one.
