On July 31st, 2005,
the Mille Isles Historical Society dedicated a stone with a plaque
to the municipality. The ceremony was officiated
by Mayor David Hudson, and Canon H.G. Baugh.
There were about 200 people who gathered for the event. Carson
Collins and George Dawson, both city
councillors attended too. Many stayed on for a scrumptious
wine & cheese gathering. Janet McAllister cheerfully
recorded the event with her camera. Shirley Captain was
dressed for the occasion in her blue 19th century dress
and Joan Hudson was attired in a similar lovely dress. There
were about 200 people who gathered for the event. Many stayed on for
a scrumptious wine & cheese gathering. The map-guided driving tour
of Mille Isles, organized by Kelly Fahey, August 27th,
starting at the Old School House (Black Store) at 1 p.m., will
conclude Mille Isles 150th anniversary celebrations.
The event paid homage to Mille Isles ancestors. Here is what Joan wrote:
"Dear Ancestor,
Your tombstone stands among the rest, neglected and
alone.
The name and date are chiselled out on polished
marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
It is too late to mourn,
You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you, in flesh, in blood, in
bone.
Our Blood contracts and beats a pulse, entirely on its
own.
Spreads out among the ones you left,
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you know
That someday I would find this spot,
And come o visit you.
Joan."
