Submitted and published in Le Régional July 2007 A Painter and a Sculptor Share their World By: Claire Oscuro Jacqueline Chartrand-Cauden hails from Pine Hill, where she welcomes you demonstrating her painting techniques. Jacqueline spent her working career as a teacher. Through the years, she has taken classes and seminars from various well known artists and mastered the techniques of oil painting, pastel and water colour. Like many other artists, she did not stop learning new techniques; she still attends classes and seminars. Every year, she surprises the public with a new collection, while some of her previous years’ paintings can still be seen in the studio. Using water colours, pastel, oil or India inks Jacqueline constantly strives to find new subjects and techniques. Her paintings invite you into a gentle serene place. For this year’s art tour, Jacqueline has prepared a new collection some of which was done at a seminar where she was able to concentrate on creating enchanting water colours. Her paintings remind visitors of the beauty of our region, with our serene lakes, ponds and many little corners where one can enjoy a time to reflect; and flowers painted in gentle, yet exuberant colours bring beauty to our homes. Jacqueline works with ink, results in landscape and still life images that are meticulously executed and eye-pleasing. Valérie Vézina, lives and works by the North River in the outskirts of Lachute. Her sloping garden is a vivid display of her cement ornaments, some are larger than life-size. Many of her sculptures depict characters that make you smile, remembering childhood fables. Valérie says that she enjoys bringing a smile on peoples’ faces. She did work in some sad environments with people who were not well at all trying to make their life a bit more pleasant. She built a world of her own concentrating on creating a fulfilling environment where one is in contact with one’s inner self drawing from nature, spiritual and religious inspirations. Some of her creations are useful tables and chairs sculpted of cement with colourful mosaics, a bar and BBQ circle of chairs and counter with larger than live Penguins. One can think of indulging in raising a glass and enjoying the view of the garden and river. In a little shed Valérie has smaller size sculptures for home and garden display. Inside the house itself, one is invited to partake in the décor of an artist who does not only create art for others. She virtually lives surrounded by walls, ceilings, doors, and windows which she painted, plastered and applied mosaics on with images of legendary characters and spiritual icons. This inspired, charged, beautiful world of Valerie Vézina is here to be shared by Route des Arts visitors. These two artists may be visited until Sunday, August 5th at 6 p.m. If you missed any of Route des Arts artists during the 9-day open doors event, you can still contact them for an appointment throughout the year!
Colours and dimensions artwork may be slightly different from the original.
