Sergiu Popa CD launch "Obsession Accordéon" Thursday, June 15th, 2006. Visit Sergiu Popa website there are samples of music to listen to.

Sergiu Popa with his Accordion.

The last concert at the old building was given on August 27th, 2005 to an invited audience.  Charles Lefebvre and I were invited.

Sergiu Popa and Jessica Gal did it again.  This time with an interesting soloist Romeo and a singer.

Text published within my ART Etc. column in Main Street, September 2004.

Nimble Fingers & Standing Ovation Raymond Sealey said that they never had such a large audience at a Camp Cammac brunch concert.  The hall was full to the hilt; people were even seated outside on the grass.  The Sergiu Popa Gypsy Band delighted us with their Balkan music.  When they got to the Czardas I found it hard to remain seated.  Sergiu Popa's nimble fingers danced over his Accordion and Anes Beglerbegovic gave the beat and fascinated us with his Darabuka.  (A goblet-shaped percussion instrument, held under a player's arm.)  The band received a standing ovation!

This was an exhilarating performance that mesmerized us all - Thank you Sergiu, Predrag, Anes and Jessica!

Sergiu played with his father at weddings since he was 8 years old.

Sergiu Popa - Group Leader, Accordion                           Predrag Manov - Guitar         Anes Beglerbegovic - Percussion Jessica Gal-Popa - Violin.

They played, Romanian, Hungarian, Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Transylvanian and of course, Gypsy tune and when they got to the Czardas I found it hard to remain seated.  Sergiu's fingers danced with his Accordion and Anes constantly gave the beat (with his legs too!)

I felt both joyous and nostalgic listening to music I grew up with.

The hall was full to the hilt and people were also seated outside on the grass.  Raymond Sealey, the Director of Cammac said that they never had such a large audience before.

Anes was fascinating with his Darabuka, when he played a superb solo for a Balkan (Bulgarian) piece.

The group finished with a Turkish tune. Sergiu said that Turkish music influenced a lot of the music played in Eastern Europe.

The group got a standing ovation and had to give "Encores".
