Sylvie and Denis opened their exhibit,
on April 3rd, 2004 with a dance improvisation in front of
their co-installation of a family tree.
Their show "Extending Roots",
is a collection of uniquely framed and laid out paintings, sculptures
and pottery.
In
their dance Denis and Sylvie dealt with the problems of sharing
creativity. Their movements talked about making ones own private space,
uniting, providing mutual support, and the realisation that each artist
has his own hurdles to tackle despite the hub of a family unit.
This is the first time Denis and
Sylvie co-exhibit their creations.
They handle the subject in different
styles and techniques. However, they did manage to display their work
together in a complimentary manner.
Sylvie
combines large and small images within one frame, or multiple human
poses on one canvas. She also shapes clay to form sculptures or
wonderful household items.
Denis
has his own painting technique, using ink and oils, creating subtle
compositions. He also does photography and wood sculptures.
Sylvie and Denis welcomed us into
their creative world, making the small room at the Morin Heights library
seem spacious. The way they set up their show, boded well for viewing
both the artwork and their dance performance.
Bravo Sylvie & Denis!
